2009 Primavera Chardonnay
Across Tasmania, vintage 2009 produced lower than average vine yields across all varieties. The upside is that fruit quality was excellent, and resulted in a Primavera Chardonnay that is remarkably tight and masculine at this stage of its development. There are resonances of honeydew melon as well a savouriness that comes from the mix of small and large French oak barrels we use in our winemaking.
2009 Primavera
Pinot Noir
We’ve been pleased with the way that consumers and the wine media have
received recent vintages of our Primavera Pinot Noir. The 2009 should continue
that run of success. This is an attractive
ripe style with good drinking qualities, but the wine’s underlying structure should enable additional complexity to build during short term cellaring. Due for release soon.
2008 Estate Pinot Noir
The warmth of the 2008 vintage is clearly reflected in the wine’s deep colour. The nose holds the promise of ripe dark berry fruit with subtle nuances that hint of flower gardens, dark Belgian chocolate, and savoury bouquet garni. Better still, the palate is rich and tannic in structure, with roughly 35 percent new French oak adding some restraint to the wine’s fruit-driven opulence. Terrific now with beef and venison, its best years are still ahead of it.
2008 Estate Merlot
Merlot is best known as a partner to cabernet sauvignon. The warmth of our Granton site shows that the variety can also stand on its own feet. And what big feet they are! This is a merlot with a real future - rich and sturdy in the glass now, it’s best enjoyed after decanting. The variety’s characteristic cigarbox notes lurk in the background and will evolve further with time. Wait for it.
