After initially delaying the launch of the second super premium Pinot Noir we’ve produced from our Granton property, we’re pleased to announce that the new 2008 Sasso will be released for sale on September 1st, 2010.
We had a great response to our first Sasso – the 2005 vintage - including a 95-point rating from James Halliday
in the 2009 edition of his Australian Wine Companion:
“Colour development obvious; aromatic spicy foresty bouquet; has outstanding length; with complex sous bois dark fruits and superfine but persistent tannins.
Rating 95 Drink 2013.”
Having waited three long years for a successor to that vintage, we’re glad that the small amount of Sasso we produced in 2008 is now living up to expectation. It’s a very intense wine, one that already delivers a good deal of aroma in the glass. More importantly, it has the fine structure and savoury elegance on the palate that we’re looking for in a top flight pinot noir.
Orders for September’s release are limited to two six-packs per customer.

Vintage 2008 was an outstanding one for us at Stefano Lubiana Wines. (Click on our Vintage Report tab at www.slw.com.au for a thorough account of the season.) This latest Sasso is essentially is a ‘best of the best’ blend… a blend of the best barrels of pinot noir we made
in 2008, one of the best vintages we’ve experienced on
our site.
It certainly meets the high expectations we set for this special, super premium wine.
Pre-release orders can be made by via telephone, or by faxing back the order
form. Our pre-release price is $80 per bottle. The offer is freight-free in Tasmania (min
of 6 bottles) with delivery to all part of Australia costing $14.
From September 1st, Sasso’s cellar door and mailing list price will increase to $85. At that stage, the wine will also be made available for sale at www.slw.com.au.
“Pinot noir is a grape variety that inspires strong emotions; it’s all about sex. There, it’s been said.
No point in beating about the bush — there’s just no other way to describe the elusive appeal of a great pinot noir. The aromas arouse the senses, stimulate pheromones and generally appeal to the sensual side of our nature. The silky texture and the complex, sweet perfumed fruit of this variety have a heady, intoxicating effect on the mind and the body, seducing the palate and urging the wine lover to take another sip.”
